The rides are designed to suit cyclists of all abilities and vary between “serious” and “relaxed” on the beautiful roads of Provence depending on what you are interested in doing and how far you are interested in riding.
Getaway by Bike is pleased to offer our clients the services of a personalised guide for guided bike rides. Vincent Milhe, a local, experienced, English-speaking riding enthusiast and guide for Bikestyletours.com, spent 10 years living in Australia before returning with his family to live in Provence. Besides accompanying cyclists on rides around Provence, Vincent also guides for Bikestyletours.com, official tour operators for the Tour de France, and worked with them as a guide on their Giro d’Italia Tour and their Tour de France trips in 2006.
Vincent’s local knowledge of the Provencal countryside, developed over 30 years of riding around the region, means that he can show you some wonderful, yet little-known riding routes, along well-maintained quiet country roads. The regions covered include Vaucluse (the Luberon, Mont Ventoux, Gorges-de-la-Nesque, the lavender routes, the Dentelles and the wine routes). Vincent’s skill and experience ensures that each ride is tailored to suit the particular riding capabilities and interests of the group.
Whether you want the challenge of climbing the Mont Ventoux like the pros, or simply want to enjoy a short ride through the vineyards or lavender fields at a quiet, leisurely pace, Vincent can accommodate your needs. As part of the service, Vincent also offers back-up technical support and will do any minor bike repairs if necessary. Vincent’s rides are designed around your needs and interests with plenty of opportunities allowed for sightseeing stops and meal/coffee breaks along the way - after all, it’s meant to be a holiday isn’t it, not a training camp!
Bike hire is available for an additional fee. All hired bikes come equipped with their own tool kit (including 1 spare tube), saddle, bike lock, pump, bike computer, helmet and water bottles. Vincent will help adjust the bike to your size and make sure you are comfortable and confident with the handling and fit of your bike before you set off. If you hire a bike it is advisable to bring your own pedals and saddle and an extra tube. Alternatively, you could ride with standard sports shoes. There are no delivery charges if bikes are picked up and dropped off by you at the bike hire supplier’s shop, however hire bikes delivered to and picked up from your hotel/holiday accommodation by the supplier will incur a delivery fee. Vincent will meet you at a suitable time and at a designated place convenient to you, such as your hotel/holiday accommodation or outside the Town Hall of your nearest village.
